Our story
Contigo means “with you”. You always have someone beside you on the floor, whether you are taking your first steps or have danced for years.
Contigo is a dance school for adults at Møllergata 9 in central Oslo. We teach Cuban salsa, Dominican bachata and rueda de casino, and more than 600 dancers have come through the doors since we started in 2022.
We started the school to create a place where people can have fun together, with dance as the common ground. It is the music, the playfulness and the freedom of Cuban salsa that we love, and that is what we pass on in class. But the dancing does not stop there. Contigo is just as much a meeting place where you find like-minded people to head out to social dance nights with, both here and elsewhere in Oslo’s dance scene.
Some come alone and others with friends, and many get to know people they would never have met otherwise. To make sure everyone is seen, we keep the classes small, and along the way we encourage trial and error. That is how students grow, both in the small moments when something suddenly clicks and over time. We look after one another, and we pass that on to those we meet.

Johan ended up at his first salsa course thanks to a friend, and stayed. Later he started Contigo, a warm place where anyone can learn Cuban salsa and feel welcome. What matters most to him is that everyone feels seen and makes progress at their own pace. His ability to break steps down and teach with humour has made him a sought-after instructor, outside Norway too. He also dances son, chachachá and kizomba, and his curiosity keeps him picking up new technique and inspiration. When he is not teaching, he likes learning something new, reading a book, or listening to Timbalive and Alexander Abreu. You might find him at a social or a congress when the chance comes up.

Andrés started dancing in 2019, after six years of karate, and was teaching the following year. He mostly dances Cuban salsa himself, along with a little bachata and kizomba, while he teaches Cuban salsa with hints of casino and rumba. A class with him is meant to be a place where it is easy to ask questions, share thoughts and have fun, and where he nudges both his students and himself a little out of their comfort zone to bring out the best in everyone. Alongside dance he has played electronic music as a DJ, and he likes travelling to festivals in other countries to meet people who are just as fond of dancing. Ask him for a song and it lands on En primera plana by Isaac Delgado.

Maritje has danced since she was little, with children’s dance and jazz ballet behind her, before she began teaching in 2009. Over six years with a show team she has performed at a number of events and festivals. She takes the time with each person, encouraging them and adapting to how they learn, and is just as happy every time someone masters something they have struggled with. After a short break from teaching she is now back with Cuban salsa, along with her own solo classes that draw movement and technique from several dance styles. She dances Cuban salsa and bachata herself, and enjoys plenty of other styles. Alongside dance she works on her own art projects, and she enjoys watching ballet and dance whenever she can.

Jennifer started with line salsa, but it was a trip to Cuba that won her over to the Cuban style. Since then, Cuban music, culture and the joy of dancing have been a big part of her life. She started as an assistant instructor in 2020 and has gradually developed her own teaching style. She has competed in Bachata Jack & Jill competitions both nationally and internationally. One of the things she values most about dancing is how it opens doors to new places and people she would never otherwise have met. On her playlist you will find timba, with Maykel Blanco and Havana D’Primera among her favourites.

Rebecca fell for salsa in 2017, while working as an archaeologist in England. She dances both Cuban salsa and L.A. style, and she has also done tap dance, ceilidh and belly dance. For her, dancing is about good connection and flow, and she likes it when things get a bit playful. In class she works on techniques that make the dancing easier, so you can relax more when you dance. Music matters to her, and you can tell when she teaches. You can take the styling she shows you straight onto the dance floor. Outside of teaching, Rebecca is a DJ, and you can hear her at several socials in Oslo. There she goes by DJ Anima.

Before salsa, life was full of music. Morten played drums in brass bands and rock bands for nearly twenty years. In the autumn of 2003 someone handed him a flyer for a salsa course, and Cuban salsa has been his thing ever since. He started assisting in teaching around 2012, and has taught ever since. In class he cares about simplicity and a good lead, and a bit of humour belongs too. Alongside salsa he has danced bachata, kizomba, swing and a bit of argentine tango, and in recent years he has grown fond of son cubano, a heart rhythm that suits him well. Outside of dance he likes to walk in Østmarka with his camera ready. A good cigar in good company is not to be sniffed at either, because you must not forget to live in the here and now.

Lars Erik is keen that social dancing should be fun. In class he works on getting you confident enough on the floor to want to dance with anyone, and he takes it at a calm pace. He started with salsa himself in June 2023. Before that, climbing was his thing. He has taught since January 2025, and joined Contigo in 2026. He dances salsa, bachata and kizomba, and has silver in Jack & Jill from Nordic Salsa & Bachata Festival. He has also danced in Cuba and at the Croatian Summer Salsa Festival. Outside of dance he plays guitar and bongos.

What started as a New Year’s resolution in 2024 quickly became a new passion. Annika dances Cuban salsa and Son as both leader and follower and enjoys sharing her love of dancing, always with a smile on her face. Since 2026, she has taught Cuban salsa at Contigo, where she loves seeing people progress and master new steps. Whether in Oslo or while travelling, she will always look for the local salsa social and loves meeting new people through dance. It’s the playfulness, the music and the welcoming community that draw her to Cuban salsa. With a curious eye for detail, positive energy and a considerate teaching style, she wants everyone to feel included and have fun in class. Outside of dancing, Annika enjoys spending time in nature, going for a swim, gathering friends for cabin trips, or knitting yet another scarf.

Cecilie knows Contigo just as well from the dance floor as from reception. She has danced salsa and rueda herself, and taken solo classes for over a year. She thinks it is a great place to dance, and these days she is listening to Thiago Navarro. What she likes most is making both new and longtime dancers feel welcome in the Contigo family.

Catherine started dancing a few years ago, and after a break she found her way to Contigo in January 2025. She has a dance education in ballet, modern and jazz, and has tried everything from swing and flamenco to bachata and salsa. For Catherine, dance is about more than steps and technique. It is just as much about community and the small moments where people meet through the music.
