Cuban Salsa at Contigo Danseskole

Cuban Salsa

The heart of everything we do: energetic and social.

Cuban salsa (Casino) has its roots in Cuban son music and is danced in pairs and in a circle (rueda). The music drives everything, and you learn to tune into the rhythm as you dance. We have five levels, from beginner to advanced.

Rueda de Casino at Contigo Danseskole

Rueda de Casino

The whole circle dances as one.

In rueda de casino, couples stand in a circle and dance at the same time. One dancer calls out the moves, and the whole circle answers with the same steps. Swapping partners all the time is part of the dance. It keeps you on your toes, but there is plenty of laughter, and you soon get to know the whole class.

Bachata at Contigo Danseskole

Bachata

Playful and musical, from basic steps to styling.

Bachata grew up in the Dominican countryside and is now on the UNESCO list of intangible cultural heritage. We stay close to the Dominican style: quick on the feet, close to the rhythm and playful in expression. It is a partner dance, and the mood on the floor is relaxed and informal.

Son y chachachá at Contigo Danseskole

Son y chachachá

The dances salsa grew out of.

Son and chachachá laid the foundation for casino, the dance we now call Cuban salsa. Son dates back to nineteenth-century Cuba, while chachachá arrived in the 1950s with a rhythm of its own. In this course you learn the basic steps of both dances and get to know the music they are danced to. We also look at how you can bring elements from both into your salsa.

Salsa Footwork at Contigo Danseskole

Salsa Footwork

We use our feet to play with the rhythm.

Footwork is a class where we challenge ourselves without a partner. We borrow steps from son, afro, chachachá and plenty more, and usually start with technical exercises and movements. We build these into a routine, and as the class goes on we turn up the tempo.

Salsa Solo at Contigo Danseskole

Salsa Solo

Find your own expression on the floor.

Salsa Solo is about technique, body control and musicality. We work on isolations, balance, coordination and styling, and take inspiration from rumba, Afro-Cuban movement and other dance forms. During the course you will explore body awareness and build a broader repertoire of movements in your own dancing.

Contigo Showteam

In autumn 2026 we are starting our first show team.

A fixed group rehearses a choreography in Cuban salsa, with a show as the goal.
